Montréalers know we’ve got a good thing going – and the rest of the world knows it too. As a mid-point between North America and Europe, Montréal is a multinational hot spot that’s not only the most multilingual city on the continent, but also its leader in international meetings (not to mention the most reputable city in the Americas and the leading event city too!). With all this at play, it should come as no surprise that Montréal is home to the most international organizations in Canada and second only to New York City in the number of consulates based here.

A gold medal performance

Using a series of indicators ranging from world-wide reputation, cost of living, linguistic diversity and 21 others and awarded medals of gold, silver or bronze, Montréal ranks in first place amongst the 10 leading International Organization cities with an Olympian 19 gold and 5 silvers. This puts Montréal ahead of the game next to Amsterdam, Brussels, Geneva, Hamburg, London, New York, Paris, Seoul and Singapore. And that’s not bad company indeed!

A world of variety

More than 60 governmental and non-governmental IOs have their home base in Montréal, including a wide range of specializations. Big players like the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) all operate here, drawing workers from one of the world’s highest ranked educational systems. The full list of International Organizations in Montréal is something we’re quite proud of sharing too.

Where the nations unite – and consul

As one of the United Nations eight headquarter cities (second in North America), Montréal is a highly sought-after address for the consulates of the world. With 46 consulates general and 33 consulates, 79 countries have presence here, ranging from Algeria to Yemen. The city’s well-connected Montréal-Trudeau Airport also makes getting here and away a snap with direct service to over 150 destinations across the globe.
