Montréal is home to the largest number of research centres in the country, with neuroscience as one of our areas of local expertise. The city is one of the world’s most active hubs in the scientific study of the human nervous system, which made it a natural fit to host the XXVI World Congress of Neurology. Happening at the Montréal convention centre from October 15 to 19, 2023, WCN 2023 will see a whopping 8,000 world experts of neurology enjoy the best Montréal has to offer.
Neurology in Montréal
Montréal has a rich history of neurology, with luminaries such as Wilder Penfield, Brenda Milner and Nobel Prize winner David Hubel having given it international renown. Montréal’s universities offer highly respected programs in neuroscience and behaviour studies, with degrees available at McGill University, Université de Montréal, Concordia, and NeuroQAM at the Université du Québec à Montréal. The Montréal Neurological Institute and Hospital at McGill — known across the globe as “the Neuro” — is a world leader in advanced patient care and brain research. Home to an internationally renowned group of researchers, the Neuro’s impact on neuroscience is inestimable.
What’s on the agenda?
The greatest draw of WCN 2023 are the lectures and presentations by leaders in the field, as well as the opportunity to be among the first to learn about ground-breaking research and the latest advancements in neurology with hands-on workshops. This edition will give you direct access to top experts including the USA’s Eva Feldman, Valery Feigin from New Zealand, Liping Liu from China, Ghana’s Augustina Charway-Felli and Canada’s own Anthony Lang.
The scientific program will also be supplemented by the popular Tournament of the Minds, in its 10th edition this year — a game show that invites participants to interact with colleagues, test intellectual tenacity and demonstrate national pride, all while competing in city or departmental teams.
And let’s not forget the social programming! From morning yoga sessions within the Montréal convention centre to a glamorous welcome reception to the Neuronal Networking Night in the beautiful New City Gas space, there will be plenty of opportunities to eat, drink and be brainy.
