Tourisme Montréal: News and People What's New in Montréal

As a city built up around a beautiful mountain, it’s a great feeling to once again be at the peak. For the third year in a row, Montréal has topped the Union of International Association’s (UIA) annual list of top host cities for international conventions in the Americas! Our leading edge keeps us in first place amongst some major event host cities like New York, Buenos Aires, Toronto and Washington.

Making room on the awards shelf

This year has already seen Montréal named the International Congress and Convention Association’s (ICCA) top city for international association meetings and the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA)’s top sports city in Canada. But don’t just take our word for it – in research firm Ipsos’ recent surveying, 98% of business travellers loved the city’s trend-setting meeting venues and our convention centre the Palais des congrès de Montréal, presently paving the path forward for hybrid IRL / on-line events and the re-start of the events industry. And not only were 95% of those polled satisfied with their Montréal experience, 84% plan to return to the city as a tourist!

Part of a proud history

Since its founding in 1907 by groundbreaking information science researcher Paul Otlet and Nobel Peace Prize winner Henri La Fontaine, the UIA has tracked the meetings and activities of international associations, as well as playing an important role in keeping international associations connected and collaborating. We’re incredibly proud to once again be recognized by the UIA.

Montréal on the world stage

There’s a few reasons why Montréal is at the top of the UIA’s list, and the city shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to doing what we do best. Here’s just a few reasons why the world comes to Montréal.

  • A major research hub in AI, clean technology and neuroscience, Montréal is the perfect home base for conferences and meetings on the cutting edge. And better yet, we’ll even connect you with local luminaries to introduce and integrate your attendees with the city’s best and brightest.
  • Montréal’s unique je ne sais quoi stretches beyond our picturesque attractions and mouthwatering cuisine scene, but in its urban creativity that’s unlike anywhere else. An initiative following the city’s official designation as an UNESCO City of Design, the local Smart and Digital City office keeps Montréal is at the forefront of city living.
  • We’re also home to YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, Canada’s most international air transport hub with direct service to over 150 worldwide destinations. The airport’s Travel With Confidence safety measures also ensure your in-person attendees will experience smooth sailing both upon arrival and departure.
