After surveying 50,000 students annually, British education specialists Quacquarelli Symonds compiles their yearly list of the world’s top student cities, and in Montréal it’s time to celebrate a hat trick! For the third time in a row, Montréal is once again ranked as the top student city in the Americas.
The pieces of the pie
With a balanced methodology of determining the most important elements of city living for students, QS’s rankings take into account factors like desirability, affordability, employer activity and – most importantly – how the students themselves view where they’ve chosen to study. With three ranked universities on their list – McGill, the Université de Montréal and Concordia – Montréal is a bona fide city of knowledge, and students are loving it! So much in fact, that Montréal ranks 2nd in the world based on student experience and students’ desire to set up in the city after graduation.
Montréal’s A+ advantage
When it comes to happy students, the numbers don’t lie. A record 35,000 international students arrived here for university studies in 2018 – a 6.1% increase from the previous year. They say our university years are, “the best years of our lives,” and Montréal’s unique character, quality of life, diversity and joie de vivre ensure that’s true for all who come to study here. But there’s more to why Montréal stays at the top of the list:
- Montréal’s universities offer the lowest tuition fees in North America.
- Simply put, Montréalers are changing the world – and that’s an inspiring thing to be around!
- Based on a list of 20 major cities in Canada and the United States, Montréal ranks at the top as the safest city.
- An environment that fosters startups and new innovations, Montréal is the perfect city for students to work in exciting fields both during and after graduation.
And there’s even more to be found at I Choose Montréal, the Greater Montréal international students portal, linking prospective students to programs, accommodations, local culture and immigration assistance. It’s time to hit the books in Montréal!
