We like to say that here in Montréal, sporting makes up a big part of our DNA. And one look at the city’s active people who spend the warmer seasons in the city’s pools, parks and atop their bikes and the colder months skiing around town and cheering in the city’s stadiums, it’s no surprise that Montréal has once again come in first place for the Top Sports City for hosting events. Game on!
A golden forecast
Each year, the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) keeps close tabs on the fastest growing segment of the Canadian tourism industry, which brings upwards of $7-billion in tourist dollars to the country. And their ranking of top sports cities not only takes into account past and planned events over the past and future 12 months, but also estimates a seven-year forecast – and Montréal is scoring gold all the way.
A champion city
There’s plentiful reasons why Montréal takes the place at the top of the medals podium, hosting sporting events ranging from massive world championships to eye-popping and unique crowd-pleasers each and every year. Our Olympian history has also blessed the city with world-class sporting venues beloved by audiences and athletes alike – not to mention an unquenchable thirst for the gold. And with a team of organizations including the Réseau du sport étudiant de Québec (RSEQ), the Olympic Park and Excellence sportive de l’île de Montréal (ESIM), it’s no wonder that Montréal is the title holder two years running.
