The Sports Events Team is proud to be attending the Smartcities & Sport Summit 2023, from November 27 to 29 in Paris, France, the host city for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. It’s a chance for us to shake hands with members of international federations and important partners in the global sports world.
An anniversary edition on the eve of the Olympics
This milestone 10th edition of the Smartcities & Sport Summit will unite the top echelon of world sport events professionals to share learnings, projects and experiences. The overarching theme: sports events as catalysts for city transformation.
Since its inception in 2014, the Smartcities & Sport Summit has steadily grown into a highly anticipated annual gathering for sport cities and the international sports ecosystem. Over 300 participants representing cities, international federations and organisations with deep involvement in the world of sport come together from across the globe. Sports Events Montréal is honoured to be participating.
This 2023 edition will also be unique opportunity to experience the Olympic Games before anyone else, to go behind the scenes before 10,500 international athletes gather to put on a show. It involves a road trip to Amsterdam, city of cycling, of particular interest to the Sports Events Montréal team considering the upcoming UCI Road World Championships, to take place in Montréal in 2026.
Maintaining Olympic standards in Montréal
Since hosting the Olympic Games in 1976, Montréal has maintained its standards as an Olympic City and an overall world-class sports destination. It’s essential for the city to maintain its leadership in the sports events world by participating in lynchpin gatherings such as the Smartcities & Sport Summit, which is among the top opportunities to discuss trends, strategies and the future of sports.
Montréal’s Olympic legacy will get a reboot in June 2024, when the city hosts the country’s elite athletes during the Olympic and Paralympic trials that will decide whether they place for Paris. Montréal’s candidacy as host city for the 2024 trials was unanimously recommended by the competition committee of Athletics Canada, and the reasons for that run the gamut: we stand out for our repeated success in sport events hosting, the financial support available, the engagement of the local community and our world-class facilities.
We look forward to meeting you in Paris!
