Industry News and Leaders Tourisme Montréal: News and People What's New in Montréal Sporting event

Whether in the parks, pools, or major stadium venues, Montréal loves sports. And with a proud Olympic pedigree and a busy host city schedule, Montréal’s connection to the international sports world runs deep – you might even say that it’s in our DNA. And this year, Montréal has been named in the Global Sport Impact (GSI) Canada Index as Canada’s top-ranking city for hosting sports events.

Based in the UK, Sportcal leads the way in sports market intelligence, offering insight and analysis of international sporting events and host city strategy and success. Working in close collaboration with the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA), they keep close watch on the fastest growing segment of the Canadian tourism industry, presently racking up more than %6.5 billion in annual spending by visitors both domestic and international. Their annual city rankings are based on performance and a seven-year forecast, which proves the future continues looking bright for Montréal’s sporting scene.

When an award like this comes along, it’s time to toot one’s horn. And with an exciting line-up of major sporting events planned for 2018 at some of our internationally-renowned sporting venues, we’re playing that horn loud and proud. And working alongside organizations like the Excellence sportive de l’île de Montréal (ESIM), the Olympic Park and Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), we’re just as excited about what’s to come as the fans packed into the stands.
