Tourisme Montréal: News and People What's New in Montréal

Chuck NorrisDavid Duchovny and Pamela Anderson walk into a convention centre … and it’s not a set-up for a joke! The ever-popular Montréal Comiccon returns July 6-8, 2018 for its 10th edition at the Palais des congrès de Montréal for three days of full-on geekery and celebration of all things sci-fi, horror, comics, video games and more. Comiccon is just the kind of multi-faceted and unconventional type of major event Montréal is perfectly suited to handle – and we’re just as excited about it as the fans.

Consider it the Mothership of fandom, as over 60,000 attendees wander past hundreds of exhibitor booths and partake in over 150 activities ranging from workshops, board games, cosplay, autograph sessions and concerts. The Palais des congrès de Montréal is the perfect venue to host an event of this scale and complexity. Comiccon poses a unique mix of challenges, from the sheer volume of traffic, to the range of technical and audiovisual requirements, to the unique security issues that arise when many attendees arrive carrying impeccably crafted – but fake – weapons as part of their costumes.

Alongside Norris, Duchovny and Anderson, Montréal Comiccon will also welcome the likes of Val Kilmer, Jennifer Morrison, Jason Momoa, Pom Klementieff and Stargate’s Amanda Tapping for a slate of Q&A sessions, photo ops and autograph opportunities.

The heroes behind the comics themselves will also be out in force, featuring scriptwriter Gerry Conway(The Amazing Spider-Man), creator David Lloyd (V for Vendetta) and hall of famer artist Neal Adams(BatmanX-MenGreen Arrow), giving fans a rare opportunity to meet the wizards behind the curtain.

With a schedule packed to the rafters, Montréal Comiccon is a true example of how to program an event for wide and varied attendees. Here’s a few eye-catchers making us particularly excited to check out over the weekend.

  • The Ré Zone: Collecting together old favourites from the past 40 years of videogames, guests can re-live – or experience for the first time – some long-forgotten favourites. (Those after just the new will want to check out the Indie Game Zone, featuring the latest from Quebec’s bustling video game industry).
  • The Film Music Wind Orchestra: Three live concerts by the OVMF will present soundtrack works from Harry PotterStar Wars and A Universe of Video Games, proving comic fans are a cultured bunch too.
  • The Sword Experience: Stunt artist and choreographer Adrian Paul (AKA TV’s Highlander’s Duncan McLeod) will teach the ins and outs of swordplay.
  • The Annual Masquerade: The costumes painstakingly put together by attendees not only blow minds, but also receive awards in a special ceremony to celebrate their creativity. What will you wear?
