A new option for a long stay has just opened its doors in Montréal. In the heart of the vibrant Plateau neighbourhood, the 53 elegant and spacious units of Sonder’s Lofts Guérin are located in a five-storey building that originally housed a textbook publishing company. A newcomer to the highly sought-after neighborhood, the hotel is just a few meters away from many restaurants and popular parks, including Mont-Royal, as well as boutiques, bars, bookstores, and public transportation.
Optimizing the guest experience
Founded in Montréal, Sonder is a tech-enabled hospitality company that aims to redefine the travel experience through inspiring design and modern service. Offering the best parts of home and hotel stays, Sonder optimizes the end-to-end guest experience across every space.
With Lofts Guérin, the majority of the 53 units spaces have a kitchen, washer-dryer, and are uniquely designed to reflect the neighborhood where they’re located. Also, as a technology-based hospitality company, Sonder's model limits the number of face-to-face interactions with customers and employees by streamlining communication through the mobile application directly whether it's check-in, late check-out, or to access Sonder's 24/7 concierge service.
And meeting professionals take note: Guérin Lofts has spaces that can accommodate events and meetings.
From Montréal to the world (with love)
Lofts Guérin is the latest to join Sonder’s group of establishments in Montréal, which includes two other hotels in the heart of downtown. Each hotel opening in the city has a special meaning for the Sonder team, as Montréal is where the company was founded in 2014.
Originally from Gatineau, Francis Davidson was studying at Montréal’s McGill University in 2013 when he decided to rent the apartment left vacant by one of his friends to tourists. He spent his days greeting them with bottles of wine, parking their cars, and making sure they were as comfortable as possible. Soon after, he was managing units in more than 10 cities. In 2016, he moved to California to take advantage of Silicon Valley's technological and financial expertise. Three years later, Sonder had reached a valuation of over $1 billion, and today the company operates in more than 35 cities around the world, over 5,000 units and hosted more than 900,000 travellers.
Revitalizing neighbourhoods
Sonder has evolved greatly since its creation. In addition to partnering with local owners and developers to lease entire buildings or floors of commercial and mixed-use properties, Sonder works with partners — including municipalities — to rejuvenate blighted properties. They also help finance renovations that bring underutilized real estate back into commerce.
Sonder’s Lofts Guérin is the latest example of this approach in Montréal. “With the revitalization of this flagship property, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the life of this great and high-demand neighborhood… and take advantage of its abundant cultural and commercial offerings”, said Montrealer Martin Picard, co-founder and Global Head of Real Estate at Sonder. “We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the commercial vitality of the Plateau Mont-Royal and to support the local community in collaboration with our partners.”
