Montréal welcomes the largest medical congress of its kind

What's New in Montréal

Starting on June 24, the Montréal convention centre will be hosting more than 8,000 medical professionals at the 2023 ISTH Annual Congress. It’s the largest international meeting in the field of thrombosis, hemostasis and vascular biology, and it brings together the world’s best minds to promote important scientific discourse and findings that will actively improve the lives of patients around the world.

What’s in store

“For 50 years, this annual meeting has been a ‘must-attend’ for our scientific community, and we are proud to have cosmopolitan Montréal as a destination for 2023,” said Marc Rodger, M.D., Co-Chair of the ISTH 2023 LOC, Chair of the McGill University Department of Medicine, Physician-in-Chief at McGill University Health Center and the Harry Webster Thorp Professor of Medicine. “Attendees will engage in an extensive lineup of educational sessions, state-of-the-art lectures, medical industry exhibits, professional networking opportunities, and much more.”

The congress will include four plenary sessions with these world-renowned speakers:

Björn Dahlbäck M.D., Ph.D., a Swedish physician, medical researcher, and professor of clinical chemistry specializing in hematology and the molecular mechanisms of blood coagulation. He determined that activated protein C resistance is the most common inherited risk factor of venous thrombosis. He will speak on A Life Spent Investigating Coagulation Factor V.

Katerina Akassoglou Ph.D., a neuroimmunologist who is a Senior Investigator and Director of In Vivo Imaging Research at the Gladstone Institutes. Akassoglou holds faculty positions as a Professor of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco. She will present on the Role of Fibrinogen in Neurodegenerative Disease.

Sonia Anand M.D., Ph.D., a Canadian vascular medicine specialist who previously held the Eli Lilly Canada-May Cohen Chair in Women’s Health and currently holds the Michael DeGroote Heart and Stroke Chair in Population Health and Epidemiology at McMaster University. She will speak on Reducing the Burden of Peripheral Arterial Disease.

Peter Libby M.D., an American physician, focusing on atherosclerosis, cardiology and preventive cardiology, currently the Mallinckrodt Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His plenary will cover Clonal Hematopoiesis in Thromboinflammation.

The prestigious live event will also include 28 total state-of-the-art sessions, 80 total oral communication sessions each featuring four presentations on the latest abstracts, 24 Scientific and Standardization Committee subcommittee sessions, 30 master classes and 12 career development sessions, Nurses Forum sessions, poster sessions, supported symposia and presentation theatres, as well as an engaging industry exhibition.

In addition to the in-person meeting, ISTH 2023 will feature a robust online platform for those unable to join onsite to foster global participation. It will feature all aspects of the Montréal event both live and recorded for virtual attendees.
