From November 8 to 18, influential players in the creative and cultural sectors from across the globe will flock to the first annual edition of HUB Montréal, an official event of the city’s official 375th anniversary celebrations. More than 3,000 professionals from ecosystems as diverse as music, digital arts, film, video games, multimedia, artificial intelligence, and virtual and augmented reality will be represented. They will converge at HUB Montréal to exchange ideas and learn new ones, collaborate, do business, and of course, celebrate (it is Montréal after all).

HUB Montréal, nicknamed “SXSW à la Montréal”, is equal parts conference, festival and marketplace. At the beating heart of this intersection will be creators, artists, ideators, influencers, entrepreneurs, distributors, agents, buyers, start-ups and the general public. Through a series of meetings, workshops, activities and keynotes, they will reflect on the challenges and opportunities of future driven industries today.

There are two main components to the program: HUB Pro, for professionals, creators, innovators, start-up companies and creative content buyers, and HUB Fest, with events, activities and entertainment for the general public.

Ten days of cross-pollination and creativity

The HUB Pro portion of the event will focus on industry learning and networking opportunities geared towards a B2B audience. HUB Pro will present, among other things, inspiring talks, presentations of groundbreaking projects, transdisciplinary workshops, collaborative labs and startup pitch sessions.

HUB Pro will focus widely on the industry areas of decompartmentalization, international outreach, synergy, and export. Some of the themes that the conference will dig deep into, and connect, include:

  • Discoverability
  • The “Montreal” effect (how and why it attracts big players)
  • Creating and developing IP in Québec
  • Linking and updating university programs
  • Digital creation and opportunities
  • Attracting and retaining talent
  • Business and financing models

HUB Pro events will take place at the Monument-National, a historic theatre on Saint Laurent Boulevard, and at the Society of Technological Arts (SAT) campus, a futuristic environment perfectly suited to the industries on hand.

The HUB Fest component of the conference, powered by Casino de Montréal will give way to exhibitions, performances and original demonstrations showcasing the innovative talents and potential of local and international creators. These festive elements of HUB Montréal will include special concerts, immersive projections, a VR Park and a Game jam. The Hip HUB Night (November 17), a can’t-miss event at the Casino, will feature a real boxing ring where several artists from the Montréal hip hop scene will enter into for a series of WordUP! Battles.

Montréal – a natural focal point

At a time of convergence between technologies, the digital world and artificial intelligence, Montréal is positioned to become a global leader, planted firmly at the center of this new knowledge economy. The city is brimming with so much daring artistry, bold innovation and world class talent, you almost have to ask: what exactly is in the water? Whatever it is, people from around the world will get to take a swig this November with the first annual edition of HUB Montréal.

Catalyzed by the festivities surrounding the city’s 375th anniversary, HUB Montréal will inject new energy and visibility into the city’s creative and cultural milieu by showcasing the know-how, dynamism and innovative potential of its people.
