Each year, the Association des Hôtels du Grand Montréal (AHGM) presents the Prix Hotelia, given to the city’s finest hotels for achievements in the previous calendar year across six categories. Presided over by a jury of industry professionals, the Hotelia is like the Oscar of accommodations, giving some of the local hotel scene’s brightest stars (in a city that’s full of them) well-deserved kudos for the mantlepiece. Here’s a look at this year’s winners – all inspiring choices for your next event delegates.

Coup d’éclat

Translating roughly as the “Breathless” award, this prize commemorates the efforts of a hotel in orchestrating an original, groundbreaking advertising campaign.

THE WINNER: Hotel Le Crystal – whose new versatile Connexion meeting spaces and spacious suites and rooftop Jacuzzis are leaving attendees feeling like 5-stars.

Coup de Cœur RH

Awarding a manager, supervisor or team leader whose innovative measures have made waves amongst their respective staff, the Coup de Cœur is a feather in the cap of any hotel professional.

THE WINNER: The Hôtel Omni Mont-Royal emerged victorious for their hotel staff retention program featuring special brand ambassador training for members of the housekeeping team that not only keeps worker satisfaction high, but also enhances the guest experience.

The Community Involvement Award

Hotels are a cornerstone of their respective neighbourhoods, and the Community Involvement Award celebrates those who make a difference.

THE WINNER: Working with the Société de Développement Social, Delta Montréal Hotel by Marriott distributed gift bags and towels to women in difficulty via the Action Médiation program with local hotels and shelters.

The Social Responsibility Award

For hotels who’ve introduced initiatives that improve sustainability – environmentally, economically and socially – the Social Responsibility Award proves that these sorts of gestures don’t go unnoticed.

THE WINNER: Back at the podium for a second time, Hotel Le Crystal’s Crystal Green program (giving each guest a $5.00 credit to donate to the environmental causes charity of their choice) took home the prize.

L’etoile du match

Translated as “the star of the match,” this award goes to a Montréal hotelier whose attention to detail is hard to beat.

THE WINNERS: Awarded to both Hôtel Château-Bromont’s Marilou Brazeau (whose presence at the hotel restaurant for over 20 years has left guests and co-workers smiling) and Pierre Perrault of the Hôtel Omni Mont-Royal (the star of the reception desk for over 40 years), these two are ready for their close-ups!

The Montréal, a Welcoming City Award

Presented by Tourisme Montréal, the Welcoming City Award is given to the year’s most impressive hospitality initiative.

THE WINNER: Hotel Monville for its groundbreaking innovations – including Canada’s first room service robot – creating in the process a true Hotel of the 21st century!

The Jury’s Special Mention

Not everything fits so neatly into the categories above, and the Jury’s Special Mention gives an opportunity to award one of the year’s deserving accomplishments regardless of category.

THE WINNER: ZERO1 Hotel’s Odette Pierre-Louis Taylor and Elizabeth Cayo Tessier of the housekeeping team, founded an initiative to forward materials and equipment to Haiti during a recent upgrade. Working with their team, 165 mattresses, 1,000 sheets, 600 towels, 900 utensils and more than 600 bowls and plates were gathered, prepared and transported in containers. And that’s worth mentioning.
